Lasik and Dry Eyes
One of the most common complications of laser assisted in situ keratomileusis Bakersfield (LASIK) is dry eyes syndrome. It is experienced by almost all patients during the recovery period after the LASIK surgery. For most patients however, dry eyes are resolved within the 6 months period set by the doctors.
Dry eyes happen after the surgery because LASIK involves creating a flap in the cornea of the eye. The parts of the eyes that creates tear are affected and so the production of tears are affected. In addition to not secreting tear in the eyes, other symptoms are burning and scratching feeling in the eyes and feeling of having sand in the eyes.

The tear secreted by our eyes are important in the general health of our eye because it washes the foreign objects and dirt in our eyes. When something get in our eyes, our eyes secret tear to wash the object off of our eyes. Our eye’s tear also contain enzymes that break down foreign microorganisms in our eyes.
When our eyes don’t secret tears, we feel that there’s always something in our eyes because there’s nothing that washes off the dirt in our eyes. LASIK doctors recommend artificial tear and Restasis. They also advise intake of fish oil which can help in the secretion of tear in our eyes.
Almost every other patient experiences dry eyes in Bakersfielf LASIK but as most doctors say, it will go away after a few months. When you are having a Lasik, you should choose a very good surgeon because there are instances when people suffer dry eyes for the rest of their lives. With a good surgeon, this will be very unlikely to happen.
