LASIK surgery is typically done to correct vision problems such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. But in Bakersfield, there are also other procedures available in correcting eye problems.
Epi-LASIK
Those who may not be eligible for LASIK surgery can undergo EPI-LASIK instead. This procedure is more recommended for people who have too thin corneas. As opposed to the sharp blade used in a LASIK procedure, a dull blade is used in an Epi-LASIK to create the flap in the cornea’s outer layer.
SBK or sub-Bowman’s Keratomileusis
This procedure is very much like a LASIK surgery, with the only difference in the tool used for creating the flap. While LASIK surgery uses a sharp blade or laser to create the flap, SBK uses a femtosecond laser that results to a much thinner flap.
Refractive Cataract Surgery
A cataract clouds the eye’s natural lens, and while there is still no known way of removing the cataract from the lens, it can be taken out completely and replaced by a clear artificial lens called intraocular lens or IOLs through refractive cataract surgery.
Knowing your eye’s problem exactly is the first step in determining what kind of procedure you should have done. And to do this, be sure to contact a LASIK surgeon to guide you through the whole process.
