Common Side Effects of Lasik Laser Eye Surgery

After your lasik laser eye surgery, you may experience something in your eyes that might scare you but you should actually not be scared because there are common side effects of lasik laser eye surgery. These side effects will almost always go away in a few days or weeks. When you feel that the surgery did not achieve your goal, if you still feel that your vision is blurry, you can go back to your lasik laser eye surgery for improvement of your first operation.

These are the most common side effects of lasik laser eye surgery:

  • Increased sensitivity to light. When you are under the sun, you find yourself glinting because your newly operated eyes become more sensitive to light. This will normally resolve after a couple of days.
  • Glare from lights especially during night. When on the road at night, patients of lasik complain of experiencing glare from the front lights of other cares. Glare is a side effect that will normally naturally go away after a few months of the operation.
  • Unstable vision. Sometimes a patient sees clearly. Sometimes the patient feels that they are still nearsighted. This fluctuation in eye vision will remain steady in the correct clearer vision after a few weeks.
  • Dry eyes. Dry eyes usually happens only for a few weeks at most is 6 to 8 weeks. Your lasik surgeon will give you eye drops to help maintain the wetness of the eyes. If dry eyes persist after 6 weeks, you should consult the doctor and have your eye examined.

Since it involves removal of corneal tissues, our eyes may take a few days or weeks to adjust to the new shape or thickness of our cornea. It is common to experience these side effects because our eyes need time to heal and to familiarize itself with the new corneal shape.
